Journey of Looking Back at Yourself

Looking back at oneself through the lens of the Vietnamese diaspora.

The Vietnamese diaspora often has a moment: standing on a street in London, New York, or Berlin, suddenly realizing they have forgotten their mother tongue. Not individual words, but the way of thinking in Vietnamese — sensing the world through its rhythm, its idioms, the meaningful silence of parents.\n\nLooking back at oneself is not regret. It is the bravest act: facing what was left behind, what was chosen, and what remains.\n\nFive signs of living on autopilot: (1) Waking up not knowing what day it is. (2) Answering "fine" without knowing what "fine" means. (3) Scrolling social media for two hours without remembering anything. (4) Meeting an old friend and realizing you no longer share a language. (5) Feeling tired at night without knowing what you did all day.\n\nDSTS does not promise to help you find yourself. We only provide a place to start looking back — through the true stories of Vietnamese who have stood there before.
