Diaspora Map must protect privacy before telling a global story

The Vietnamese diaspora map should show aggregated, opt-in, non-identifying data unless privacy gates are locked.

Diaspora Map is a powerful idea: seeing Vietnamese people living, learning, working, creating, and contributing around the world. But a community map can become risky if it reveals too much personal data too early without clear consent.

The first principle of DSTS Diaspora Map is privacy before storytelling. Before telling a global story, the system must protect the people mentioned.

The first stage should use aggregate data

At the read-only stage, the map should describe regional clusters, community direction, and data principles. It does not need individual pins, exact addresses, or identifiable profiles.

Opt-in must include withdrawal rights

If individuals or organizations later appear on the map, DSTS needs clear opt-in, purpose, retention, visibility scope, edit rights, and withdrawal rights. Participants must know what they are agreeing to.

A good map connects without exposing

The goal of Diaspora Map is not to collect as many profiles as possible. The goal is to help the community recognize a larger shared story while respecting privacy.
